It’s never too early for patio season, right?

We’ve long been fans of the heated, covered patio at The Boathouse Restaurant’s Kitsilano Beach location—what better spot to crack some fresh crab legs and sip a cold Stanley Park Amber Ale while soaking up the sun?—but the restaurant’s new rooftop deck, opened just last summer, may well be our new favourite sunny-day hotspot. Kits has long been lacking a great rooftop patio, and The Boathouse’s new space is just what the neighbourhood needs. The green roof was designed by Vancouver firm Architek, who have plenty of experience engineering celebrated living buildings (they’re the ones behind the green roofs at Van Dusen): fresh greenery surrounds the seating, while glass railings provide unimpeded views of the water and bustling beach below. It may well be the patio of our dreams. But if you’d rather enjoy the sunshine closer to the action, here’s some more good news: The Boathouse is reopening the downstairs concession shack, the Boathouse Beach Grill, later this month, with a classic menu of take-out dishes to enjoy right on the beach—think crispy fish sandwiches, fresh chicken wraps and fish and chips. Wherever you’re making the most of the beautiful Vancouver views, though, it’s nice to know they’ll be accompanied by locally sourced, Oceanwise dishes—and a beer or two.
