Here’s what the industry can do about it!

According to Visa Canada, a staggering 60 percent of Canadians now eat out once a week. There’s no doubt that Vancouverites are participating in this trend, with so many restaurants to choose from and a multitude of delivery services at our fingertips. However, amidst this industry boom, restaurateurs are now facing a massive shortage of employees. Restaurant owners are struggling now more than ever to not only hire, but also retain restaurant staff; an astounding 94 percent of them are currently looking to recruit chefs and cooks. The British Columbia Restaurant & Food Services Association (BCRFA), along with the Employment Program of BC, has conducted a six-month study as to why this is happening, and would like to invite those who work in the food service industry to hear their solutions and findings. They are hosting a forum to discuss the current industry climate, strategies to improve recruitment and retention and what restaurateurs can do to satisfy the growing and changing needs of their employees. The forum is being held on January 16th, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Centre located at 3075 Slocan St., Vancouver, BC. Contact the BCRFA at 604-669-2239 or to RSVP for free. The Labour Market study is funded by the Province of British Columbia and by the Government of Canada.
