The trees in bloom around the streets of Vancouver serve as a constant reminder to get our own gardening acts together. But if you’re in need of a little extra inspiration this season, a quick—and affordable—trip across the border is a great place to start.Several spring festivals sprouting up around the Seattle-Tacoma area make Lynnwood, Washington the perfect home base for a weekend away. “Lynnwood is only fifteen minutes from Seattle, but our lodging rates are about forty percent less,” explains Mary Monroe, Tourism Manager for the City of Lynnwood. The region’s seasonal events begin April 1 with the month-long Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, located just thirty minutes north of Lynnwood. The annual festival, which draws hundreds of thousands of people each year, invites visitors on a self-guided tour through the tulip fields of RoozenGaarde/Washington Bulb Co. and Tulip Town just as the stunning crops are expected to be in bloom.Next up is the Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival running from April 24 to 26. The three-day event, designed to educate on Japan’s rich heritage through various programs, performances and activities, honours the beautiful sakura cherry blossom tree. The region’s final spring event takes place at Lynnwood’s own Convention Centre from May 6 to 7.
