Three very exciting new titles to compete for at Vancouver magazine's 2017 Restaurant Awards.

Three very exciting new titles to compete for at Vancouver magazine’s 2017 Restaurant Awards.

Last week, we announced our finalists for this year’s Restaurant Awards. Today, we’re sharing a sneak peek at a trio of new categories we’ve added to the 2017 competition…and the talented contenders in the running for each one.

Best Brunch

In a city that’s brunch-obsessed, it’s kind of crazy we haven’t had this category before. But this year, we’ll be crowning someone the champ of this Sunday Fun Day meal.Your nominees are: Ask for Luigi, Au Comptoir, Burdock and Co., Café Medina and Jam Café.

Best Bakery

Our judges were forced to do some serious carbo-loading for this brand new category—it’s a tough job, but somebody had to do it.Your nominees are: Bâtard, Beta5 Chocolates, Chez Christophe, Fratelli and Thomas Haas.

Best Izakaya

With an abundance of the world’s best Japanese food available right here in Vancouver (apologies to the Land of the Rising Sun), it’s only natural that at some point we would need to start breaking up the general category of “Best Casual Japanese” into more specific areas of expertise, including Best Izakaya.Your nominees are: Guu, Kingyo, Rajio, Suika and Zakkushi. We’ll be announcing three more categories next week, too. Any guesses as to what they could be?

Check back in with us on April 18 (or follow along on Twitter or Instagram) to see the winners of these categories and many more! For a full list of this year’s nominees, click here.
