A new winner this year: Old Vines Restaurant at Quails’ Gate, under chef Roger Sleiman, takes Gold from perennial favourite the Terrace at Mission Hill (Silver). The judges felt Old Vines to be “one of the valley’s few international-calibre spots to dine” and “a stunning room any time of year with breathtaking views—even by Okanagan standards—as well as a lovely selection of wine-bar snacks.” “The duck breast is superb,” said one judge, “and you can’t go wrong with a single item on this menu.” The Terrace remains “a spectacular place to enjoy a lazy lunch on a summer’s day, with chef Matt Batey ably carrying on the fine food tradition of his predecessors.” Bacchus Bistro at Domaine de Chaberton (Bronze) brings surprisingly good French food to its restaurant in Langley, best seen in dishes like chef Ashley Chisham’s satin-smooth lobster bisque, crispy duck confit with De Puy lentils, and a fluffy chocolate mousse with praline croustillant. Honourable mentions to Vineyard Terrace at Cedar Creek and The Patio at Lake Breeze; meanwhile, Miradoro, about to open at Tinhorn Creek, tops the most-anticipated list.
