Best Noodle House 2013

GOLD: HOKKAIDO RAMEN SANTOUKA

Silver: Deer Garden Signatures | Bronze: Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle | Honourable Mentions: Pearl House, Motomachi Shokudo

Noodle slurpers are a feisty, opinionated bunch, and determining a Top 5 is no easy task. Judges felt it was always worth the inevitable wait at Hokkaido Ramen Santouka (Gold). “The long-simmered broth has a milky stickiness that has no competitors; the spicy version brings liveliness to what could be an overly rich broth. And the noodles are perfectly cooked.”

Deer Garden Signatures (Silver) was celebrated for the clean and sweet fish soup base with rice noodles and choice of toppings.

At Bronze-winning Chef Hung’s, “deep beefy noodles, richly flavoured but never muddy, are the best of the genre.”

Pearl House beef noodles and Motomachi Shokudo’s clean chicken broth earned the Honourable Mentions.
