For the 2026 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, we continued our new tradition of Editors’ Choices: picks from our editorial team which highlight the rooms in the city that serve a specific purpose, in addition to having great food and service.

Editors’ Choice: Best Private Rooms
Folietta, 1480 Nanaimo St., folietta.com
L’Abattoir, 217 Carrall St., labattoir.ca
The perfect private dining room should feel as vibey as the restaurant itself, and both of this year’s winners find that balance of creating a buzzy space that’s just for you and a dozen of your closest friends. Folietta’s private room is tucked at the back of the restaurant and up a short flight of stairs, a warm and welcoming space that could easily be your cool Zia’s dining room (your Nonna seems less likely to have quite as funky an art collection). Be sure to go for a round of Vipera cocktails. Part of the adventure of booking L’Abattoir’s private space (pictured) is your arrival: it’s on the second floor (past a bustling kitchen) of its own building, accessed across a courtyard from the restaurant, a rare Vancouver space with original brick walls and old-growth beams. It’s also a private room that’s made for many, many friends: it can host up to 50 seated or 70 standing.
