The sustainable-clothing event features garments, accessories and beauty goods from more than 30 indie Canadian designers.

Looking to green up your wardrobe but don’t know where to start? Let First Pick Handmade guide you in your goal of more responsible fashion consumption on March 16 and 17, when the locally produced pop-up takes over Heritage Hall (3102 Main St.) for its second annual spring edition. The curated shopping event will feature ecofriendly men’s, women’s and unisex garments and accessories from more than 30 independent Canadian designers, many of them from Vancouver. Think flowing, multi-hued frocks constructed from waste hosiery by Sans Soucie Textile; period-proof panties from Revol Girl; and quality, made-to-order jeans by Dogwood Denim, plus skincare and beauty goods from homegrown names like Conscious Care and Element Botanicals. HerStory_180715_0010-575x768.jpg (Photo: Sans Soucie Textile and Design) Handcrafted jewellery, meanwhile, will be stocked by designers such as Billy Would and Joanna Lovett, who will have everything from reclaimed-wood earrings to Earth-shaped silver lockets on hand. “I think we offer a really unique market experience in that we offer fashion and accessories only, and all handmade by local and Canadian designers,” says Jenna Hurtzig, who founded First Pick Handmade in 2017 as a way to introduce Vancouverites to the region’s slow-fashion makers.
