For the latest in its Fashion Eye series, Louis Vuitton shares Norwegian photographer Sølve Sundsbø's photographs of B.C.'s wilderness.
Fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø spent 13 seasons falling in love with B.C.’s Selkirk mountains, and his photo series capturing their raw wilderness makes for a compelling latest edition to Louis Vuitton’s Fashion Eye series. It’s the first time that Fashion Eye—which has featured photographers Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh and Saul Leiter sharing their take on Monte Carlo, Berlin and New York, respectively—has shone a spotlight on a Canadian destination, and Sundsbø was in Vancouver to celebrate its launch at the Burrard Street store for the brand. British Columbia, Canada, 2004-2017 (Photo: © Sølve Sundsbø Ltd.)”The mountainous landscapes of British Columbia as seen through the lens of Sølve Sundsbø’s camera are so removed from our daily experience that they convey a sharp sensation of unreality,” says writer Alain-Paul Mallard in the book. “The photographer has created a surprising portfolio of formally diverse photographs that neither requires annotation nor invites outside commentary. However, the standpoints from which they have been shot are unsettling. Where do they situate us as viewers and what exactly are we looking at? What could account for the strangeness of the vantage points?”A sample of his unsettling photos are shown here. For the full experience, pick up a copy of Sundsbø’s British Columbia ($59) at Louis Vuitton.
