The local size-inclusive brand's $200-plus jeans will be as low as $20.
Throughout my career, I’ve written some difficult stories, but I don’t think anything has tested my journalistic integrity quite as much as this. I do not want to share this information. But as an editor of this magazine, it’s my duty to inform. So here goes:
Decade Studio is having a sample sale on March 19.
Dramatic? Me? Actually, no. Here’s why. While I’ve waxed poetic about Decade’s size-inclusive ratio-fit jeans before, and interviewed the all-star creative director Molly Spittal, I don’t actually have a pair myself—largely because they cost $243.

At this sale, the brand is advertising up to 80% off past season’s styles. According to Decade: “We’ve got tons of your past season faves that will be ready to be tried on and purchased for as low as $20! Yes, you read that right.”
(For the record, I’m not complaining about the regular price of the jeans—I think it’s important to remember that we’re super conditioned to think fast fashion prices are normal, and Decade’s pants are made ethically by folks who are paid a living wage).

I’m sure there are lots of people in the same boat as me: in full support of ethical and sustainable fashion, but simply not in a financial place to spend $243 on a pair of jeans on the reg. Which is why I really didn’t want to write about this. I don’t want the sale to be so packed that I don’t get my pick.
And it’s not just me. My usually supportive friends were not very happy when I announced I was going to cover this online (and also think everything I write is an event roundup).
It’s the price you pay for being pals with a very serious journalist. Decade Studio’s sample sale is this Saturday, March 19 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at #100 88 West 8th Ave. Masks are required to shop, and the brand is asking folks to bring their own reusable bag and research their size ahead of time.
Entry is free, but they’re taking registrations on eventbrite. I sincerely hope I don’t see you there.
