The Tonight for Tomorrow Fundraiser is the Perfect Excuse to Go Out for Dinner

If you’ve ever been out to eat at Jamjar, Tuc, Belgard Kitchen, The Mackenzie Room, or 60-plus other restaurants around Vancouver, you may have noticed certain menu items marked with a fork-and-plate logo. You may also have learned that every time someone orders those particular dishes, the restaurants will donate $1 to Mealshare, a non-profit organization that provides meals to youth living in poverty.Sounds like a pretty nice way to give back, right? Well, on Wednesday, May 9, a few restaurants (18, to be exact), are raising the bar and donating every dollar spent on all menu items. “This is the easiest and most delicious fundraiser you’ll ever participate in,” says Derek Juno, the business development VP of Mealshare. All you have to do is go out for dinner. The fundraising event, called Tonight for Tomorrow, will take place across Canada (Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa), but the money raised in each city stays there and feeds the youth in that community; Mealshare partners with local charities in each of the participating cities to spread the love (and donations). In the case of Vancouver, the partners are Kidsafe Project, Boys and Girls Club and Breakfast Club of Canada. So why not finally check out Brix and Mortar in Yaletown for sorghum glazed duck breast or Bauhaus in Gastown for quinoa cannelloni, and feel warm and fuzzy knowing your meal is feeding a kid in need (see full list of participating restaurants here). You could even go one step further and have a progressive dinner—that’s when you have your appetizer, entrée and dessert at different places. It is for charity after all…just saying.
