For ten days only, Wa-Bagel is releasing three limited-edition flavours inspired by Vancouver.
It feels like only yesterday we were anticipating the opening of Wa-Bagel by Aburi. Now, the shop known for its chewy, mochi-filled, Japanese-style bagels is celebrating its one year anniversary with a bang.
Inspired by the flavours of Vancouver, owner Yukiko Iikura developed three new flavours that will only be available starting today, September 16 until September 26.
First up is the triple matcha: the bagel itself is matcha-forward and its filled with rich matcha cream cheese and sweet red bean paste and topped with matcha drizzle. The intensely flavourful matcha is imported from Kyoto—and is farmed by an old school friend of Iikura.
Next (my personal fave) the ube mochi bagel. When warmed the bagel has some real mochi chew to it—and the all natural ube flavour really sings. Combined with the coconut filled and toasted topping, this bagel tastes like the ever-delicious Filipino jam ube halaya.
The savoury bagel of the bunch is the mash-up we never knew we wanted until now—spinach and feta. Iikura explained that though spinach is a common ingredient in Japan, the addition of feta makes it oh-so-Vancouver. But its when this classic combination is combined with the chewy texture of the Japanese-style bagels that it becomes unique.
Plus, in honour of its anniversary, Wa-Bagel is offering a bundle on these limited edition bagels: all three, plus a very cute bagel-inspired tote for $18.
