Smitty’s Oyster House Now Serves Brunch and Late Night Cocktails

Consider your weekend planned.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: Vancouver is a brunch city. Which means it’s practically stop-the-presses-level breaking news anytime there’s a new brunch spot on the block. I mean, how else are we all supposed to snag that coveted 11:30 a.m. reservation?

This time around the location itself isn’t actually new—Smitty’s Oyster House on Main Street is a staple for those of us who spend our free time adding mignonette to freshly shucked half-shells. But this is the first time breakfast fare has appeared on its menu—and it runs from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. so waking up early is (thankfully) not a requirement.

The menu covers the gamut of traditional brunch fare: there’s a classic breakfast ($18) with two eggs, bacon or tomatoes, toast and home fries, avocado toast ($18) that comes topped with roasted garlic, sliced tomatoes, a fried egg and chili crunch and French toast ($17) made out of cinnamon loaf and topped with banana, berries and maple syrup.

But the real stars of the brunch menu are the Benedicts. Sure, you can get the classic ($19), but the butter-fried crab cake ($23, comes with lemon aioli) and pan-fried oyster ($21) have something the other options do not: fresh seafood. Which, let’s be real, is one of the main draws here.

For those of us that are more night owl-inclined, Smitty’s has also released a new late night cocktail menu that runs from 9 p.m. to midnight on Thursday through Saturday. The menu includes classics like Long Island iced teas, Aperol spritz and palomas as well as more creative cocktails like the Barbarossa (raveller whiskey, Sailor Jerry’s rum, pineapple juice, dry vermouth, orgeat, lime, cherry, mint) and the Shafts (vodka, Kahlua, Bailey’s, espresso).

Two-buck-a-shuck oysters will also be available exclusively during the late night cocktail hours, which if I’m doing my girl-math correctly, means I can technically order even more oysters than I would have originally—and possibly even one of Smitty’s spicy marg shooters which comes with tequila, triple sec, lime juice, Boys Don’t Cry hot sauce, Tajín rim, Sunseeker oyster topped with lime juice. Because really, who doesn’t want a snack with their shot?
