Breaking: Lucky Taco Is Finally Opening in the River District

Tacos, margaritas, nachos and more come to the River District.

Well, well, well: looks like the River District finally got Lucky.

It’s tough for a planned community to really thrive. When the River District first came together, it had plenty of essential amenities—groceries, pharmacies, movie theatres, schools, parks, flashy fitness studios—but most would argue that, as a neighbourhood, it’s still lacking a little bit of soul.

This is not meant to be an insult to the ambitious developers behind River District. We need more housing, and you have given it to us! You’re heroes and we should be building statues of your executive team, not complaining about big box stores! I’m a jerk! A jerk who is just saying that the 4,500 people who live there now (a number projected to be 15,000 when the project is finally complete) would probably appreciate a few cool restaurants to visit after a big night out at the (very nice!) Canadian Tire.

Which is why the announcement of Lucky Taco’s imminent opening is so exciting. I want all my Vancouver brethren to live within walking distance to a hip modern cantina, and now the RD crew will enjoy just that. The 1,050-square-foot space (the second Lucky Taco location for Gooseneck Hospitality restaurant group) will officially open next weekend, with indoor seating for 30 and another 25 spots on an expansive patio.

The design (by St. Marie Studio) is “purposefully irreverent,” with a punchy palette of oranges, yellows, reds blues and greens set against concrete and corrugated metal.

Under the helm of executive chef Christian Chaumont, Lucky Taco River District will feature tried-tested-and-true dishes from the Kits location: think chicken tinga and Baja pescado tacos, outrageous nachos and margarita fishbowls. The comprehensive tequila and mezcal library will make River Districtians grateful to live within walking distance.
