Our (growing) list of takeout picks—support local restaurants and treat your mother.
Brunch is the name of the game this Mother’s Day, but because Spring is finally starting to reveal itself, why not make it a brunch picnic? Takeout is the answer, whether its chocolates, afternoon tea, or a savoury meal. Here’s how to make Mom’s special day a little more special. The Chefs at Edge have a meal for mom to add to the pampering day. Their ‘I Could ‘Quiche’ You Mom’ ($55 for 2 people) menu includes two spinach, sun-dried tomato and feta springform pan quiches, Caprese salad, orange poppyseed loaf, fresh cut tulips and an optional spring crafted cocktails for a boozy brunch add-on.

Treat Mom with brunch and at-home pampering goodies. The Mother’s Day Gift Bag ($75) from Bel Café packs an assortment of fresh croissants with a jar of house-made basil berry jam and granola, topping it off with a bottle of hand wash and a tulip bouquet. One gift bag is a surprise for Mom and a donation towards local single mothers and their children in need.

What mom doesn’t love a decadent afternoon tea? Treat her to a Mother’s Day Tea for Two ($49) to-go package from Blue Hat Bakery-Café. The take-away kit includes five savoury bites (two each)- egg salad sandwich, veggie tartlet, brioche bun with chicken waldorf salad and smoked salmon on a cheese scone, five sweet treats (two each)- berry pavlova, Princess cake and Opera cake, lemon meringue tart and a mini Paris-Brest, two scones with berry preserve and traditional clotted cream, and two teas.

Treat mom to an afternoon tea session at home or on a picnic blanket. Faubourg’s Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea for Two ($80) includes 12 desserts and 6 savoury options along with a tea selection- all presented on an afternoon tea tower.

Another afternoon tea and/or brunch take-home kit (no such thing as too much tea!), Savoury City Catering has a special Mother’s Day Brunch Kit ($119) and Afternoon Tea Menu ($39) including both savoury and sweet options. While you can expect eight savoury and four sweet bites in the Afternoon Tea kit (smoked salmon and chive biscuit, tartlets and traditional scones) you’ll find a much more luxurious assortment in the brunch kit: quiche, lyonnaise potatoes, scones and a dozen of assorted tarts, squares and cookies.

Here’s a one-of-a-kind potluck. Celebrate Mom with the Mama Cheung’s Laksa Seafood Boil ($298) from Potluck Hawker Eatery. The potluck includes seafood, sides, flowers and a drink. Indulge in a BC seafood bounty- a whole Dungeness crab, a pound each of Totten Inlet and Manila clams, prawns, longanisa sausage and more.

Mom can get a free treat at Artigiano cafe across BC and Alberta on Mother’s Day weekend. Take her out to a free medium-sized beverage (she can choose from the entire beverage menu). To redeem the treat, download the Artigiano- Let’s Have Coffee App, create an account, click on the “I’m a Mom” banner and scan the code at the register.
For a smaller but sweeter celebration for Mom, surprise her with a letter cake. The Love You Mom cake ($89) is decorative and heart-warming, adorned with chocolate, fruit, cookies and flowers, and comprising of 3 letters spelling out “Mom”.
Indulge in fine Pan-Asian comfort foods and more from Torafuku’s 5-course Mother’s Day Menu ($85). Mom can pick between a refined version of Hainanese chicken with shiitake mushroom rice or a truffle dashi beurre monté sea bream with a creamy yaki udon. But the take-out menu comes with more- salad, sea urchin omelette, and dessert to end it off.

Chocolates are a universal gift that go for any occasion, including Mother’s Day. Rocky Mtn Chocolate’s collection for this special day features a selection of assorted chocolates like the Stay Mom’s Favourite ($85). Designed with a picnic in mind, the Mother’s Day Picnic Basket for Two ($65) from Farina a Legna has everything you need for a delicious and good-looking picnic. Along with charcuterie, the basket comes with pickled vegetables, olives, focaccia, house-made jam, dijon, ciboria insalata and two beverages. And on top of that, two vintage glasses, plates, napkins and utensils to set the table, or blanket.

Celebrate Mom with a family lunch. Try Heritage’s Mother’s Day Lunch ($88) takeout package for four, filled with prawn dumplings, truffle prawn and pork siu mai, five spice chicken wings, fried pork, chicken and shrimp balls, fun guo dumplings, and mango pudding. Pre-orders also receive a complimentary jar of Heritage’s XO Sauce.

For sushi lovers, moms included, the Mother’s Day specials at Yuwa make the perfect Mother’s Day meal. The Chirashi Sushi ($110) platter, enough for 2-3 people, includes a selection of premium fish and spring vegetables; BC uni, firefly squid, fiddleheads and asparagus. The Temaki Sushi ($88) set features 10+ Temaki sushi cones including spot prawn, scallop, snow crab and more.

Homer Street, Tableau, and Maxine’s have teamed up to create the ultimate brunch takeout: Mother’s Day Continental Brunch ($60). The takeout includes one of each house-baked pastry (croissants, banana oat muffin, coffee cake), bircher muesli, a breakfast board (fennel salumi, shaved ham, artisan cheese, soft-boiled egg), smoked salmon, and a Hannah Brook Farm Salad with an optional add-on mimosa kit ($25).

Take mom out for brunch, but bring the fine-dining to her. The Belgard Kitchen prepared a minimal-mess at-home brunch kit for two. The Mother’s Day Brunch kit ($40) includes waffles with blueberry syrup and cream, salmon gravlax with roasted potatoes, bacon and an optional sparkling wine.

Railtown Catering’s Mother’s Day Brunch Package ($199) comes with tea sandwiches (prosciutto, regganio, mango and more combinations), pesto hummus with garbanzo beans and poached quails egg, green gazpacho with blackened shrimp, burrata, smoked salmon, and an upside down cake with blackberries and lemon cream for dessert.

Take Mom out for a high tea picnic. Five Sails’ Mother’s Day High Tea At Home ($140) for two comes with ‘burger’ macarons, a truffle quiche, brioche finger sandwiches, tartlets, savoury madeleines, an assortment of sweet treats, scones with cream and honey preserve, and two specialty tea bags.

Moms in the Okanagan can join Phantom Creek Estates for a three-course, wine-paired Mother’s Day Brunch ($70) on Mother’s Day. Following a ‘Welcome Mimosa’, Moms are treated to granola and yogurt paired with a 2019 Estate Viognier, smoked trout eggs benedict paired with a 2019 Estate Chardonnay, and a lemon meringue donut with tea or coffee for dessert.

Choose between a Mother’s Day feast or a grander feast for the special day. Nuba’s Mother’s Day packages serve a family. La Feast ($90) is a vegetarian mezze platter, including falafel, mjadra, vegan stew, salad, pita, spreads and more. La Grand Feast ($120) replaces the falafel, mjadra and vegan stew for roasted potatoes, beef skewers, spiced prawns and chicken skewers. Both feasts come with a bottle of prosecco and a half-litre of orange juice.

Celebrate Mom’s special day with a simpler but just as delicious meal. Popina’s Whole Fried-Chicken Family Feast for Mother’s Day ($45) sets the table with a whole free-run Fraser Valley chicken in one of three flavours (Classic, Hammer’s Nashville Hot, and Szechuan Garlic) along with french fries, garlic bread and coleslaw.
The first-come first-served meal will be available on Mother’s Day at Popina Canteen (Granville Island Public Market) only for patio dining or takeout (delivery not available).
