This might be the weekend to give yourself a treat.
Usually you can’t get a good blow out and facial done in one spot, so we decided to check out the Valentine’s Day special at Yaletown salon The Glamoury, which collaborated with the Skin Girls medical aesthetics. Upon arrival at The Glamoury, I was welcomed in and my winter coat was traded for a silk robe. A stylist then shampooed and conditioned my hair with a small scalp massage before moving onto blow-drying. I have long, thick hair, so it could have got a little boring sitting for so long as my hair was dried strand by strand, but the sparkling rosé and water offered—as well as home-made sweets by owner AJ Woodworth—kept me entertained. Next came the microdermabrasion and oxygen facial treatment—definitely the highlight of the day. Like any facial, your hair is safely tucked away and what happens next is absolute skin bliss. The microdermabrasion process used a small machine with a vacuum-like feeling to polish my face, followed by the oxygen treatment, wherein three different products were painted on with an ultra soft cosmetic brush meant to even out your skin tone. The process is said to pull blood and oxygen from under your skin to the top two layers of your skin to prevent and correct damage, but all I cared about was the cherry and willow bark smell of the product which put me in a dream state. It was the most relaxing 30 minutes I had all week. The Verdict: If you have time go for the special, it’s less than the facial would cost alone (normally $150 with the Skin Girls) but if you already have plans, I’d chose the facial over the blow out.
