Add This to Your Calendar: Shoe Shopping and Marshmallow Popping

Centre A and John Fluevog want you to buy a new pair of shoes—all in the name of charity.

Shopping for a new pair of shoes isn’t normally considered a philanthropic activity, but that all changes next week. On Tuesday, March 14 Centre A, a non-profit public art gallery in Chinatown, will be hosting a White Valentine’s Day party at the John Fluevog store in Gastown. Centre A, whose mandate is to challenge Eurocentricity, uses the  the art gallery as a platform to engage in conversation about contemporary art—all while building an understanding of the long and dynamic Asia-Canada relationship.White Valentine’s Day was established in 1977 by a Japanese marshmallow company, who wanted to continue to sell their products a month after February 14, and now Centre A is revamping the day with local Archimallows, who will be at the event with an open s’mores bar. In support of Centre A’s 2017 exhibitions and programming John Fluevog will also be donating 50 percent of all shoes sold at the March 14 event to the gallery. In addition to shopping an eclectic collection of shoes, guests can indulge in craft beer from Faculty Brewing, hors d’œuvres from New York Chef Sihui Zhang’s Cuisine X and party favours from Lisa Lou’s Chocolate Bar to name a few.
