Vancouver, you've done it again. In difficult times, good food sustains us—here are the freshest menus, newest spaces, and insider eats to keep you going.

hello nori

1. Hello Nori

1165 Robson Street

This new Japanese restaurant is all about the handroll: fresh seafood wrapped in warm rice and seaweed. The rolls can be ordered individually or as a set (think toro, yellow tail, Ora King salmon, Hokkaido scallop, crab and truffle lobster) and they offer delivery and pickup. If you get the chance to peek into their dining room, you'll see a 24-seat U-shaped bar and surrounded by raw materials—wabi-sabi vibes brought to you by Concrete Cashmere Designshellonori.com

2. Tableau Bar Bistro

1181 Melville Street

It's technically a re-opening, but the Tableau Bar Bistro is back with an all-new look after a renovation by Ste. Marie. The French-meets-West Coast restaurant has doubled its capacity and is embracing botanical, conservatory-style design (plant freaks, this one's for you). The refreshed menu includes French onion soup, steak frites, coq au vin, and of course, le burger. tableaubarbistro.com

wurst of us

3. Wurst of Us

1889 Powell Street

We'll say it: a lot of vegan hot dogs are just plain bad. But leave it to Aleph Eatery owner Haitham El Khatib to make plant-based wieners work. Wurst of Us's menu is dog-centric (genius) with names like the El Perro (pink onions, jalapeno and charred corn) and the Inu (pickled cabbage, wasabi mayo and nori)—you can read more about their pandemic pivot here. Not sure who let the dogs out, but we want them in... our stomachs. wurstofus.ca

good pizza yvr

4. Good Pizza

112 W Broadway (Mondays and Thursdays only)

Although it's not the most SEO-friendly restaurant (try Googling "good pizza vancouver," I dare you) this new pop-up inside Modus Coffee is a grand success—we even mentioned this mysterious pizza extraordinaire in our Best Takeout Roundup of 2020. Keep an eye out for reservations, they fill up fast. This week's menu included "Taters Gonna Tate" with poached potatoes, red cabbage and bacon and "Tony Hawk's Pro Tater #2" with poached potatoes, confit garlic and rosemary. Follow their Instagram for updates (and condemnations of white supremacy—good work, folks). @goodpizzayvr

the roof

5. The Roof at Black+Blue

1032 Alberni Street

Just in time for patio season (now everyone's favourite season—thanks COVID!) The Roof at Black and Blue is reopening. The space, renovated by Monarc Interiors, is now a green, romantic oasis—perfect for sunny outdoor dining. The rooftop menu includes meat hot off the grill, fresh salads, a seafood tower, and yummy cocktails. glowbalgroup.com
