1. Via Kanana

February 16 – March 6

The South African dance company Via Katlehong condemns the effects of corruption and expresses the frustration felt towards the lack of beneficial change for Black people post-apartheid. Dance, history and a powerful message that we all need to hear.

2. My Sister’s Closet Pop-Up Shop

February 17 – August 31

Thrift cool clothes (some previously used in the film industry!) and support a great cause at this new pop-up. All of the proceeds will fund the Battered Women’s Support Services’ 24/7 crisis line.

3. Into the Light

February 18 – 20

Celebrate Lunar New Year at the Gateway Theatre’s all-ages, immersive experience that gives you a unique way to experience Chinese cultural traditions. Make your own paper lanterns that will be displayed (or take a kit with you to put up at home!)

4. AFAM African Fashion Week Vancouver

February 19

Experience live musical performances, dance and, of course, the catwalk and exhibitions by notable designers. There will also be a marketplace so you can take some of the fashion home with you!

5. Sovereignty by Duane Isaac

February 17 – March 14

Come face to face with Mi’gmaq photographer and mask-maker Duane Isaac’s emotional study of the interconnectedness of the body and the land. His mixed-media photo exhibit is of an Indigenous body wearing a fantastical mask (one side is contains overgrown greenery and the other the ghost of a human face).
