For our ravenous community of local foodies, this is the most wonderful time of year. EAT! Vancouver festival is back for its 18th year, Nov. 4-9, and has stepped it up once again with even more award-winning chefs, new collaboration dinners, events and classes to sink your teeth into. Net proceeds are donated to the BC Cancer Foundation, and tickets go on sale Sept. 12. Here’s a quick preview of EAT! Vancouver’s tasty lineup:

EAT! Harvest at Vancouver Club

The festival is pulling out all the stops for its signature event, hosted this year at the Vancouver Club. There will be a smorgasbord of canapes served up by 15 award-winning North American chefs (including Toronto heavyweights Carl Heinrich, Craig Harding and Paula Navarette, plus Jonathan Gushue from Fogo Island Inn in Newfoundland and rising star Christine Sandford from Edmonton’s Biera Restaurant). Expect every bite to be complemented by the best wines from the Pacific Northwest and finished with decadent desserts. Limited to 300 guests.

New EAT! Pastry DAY

Imagine a whole day filled with decadent dessert tastings and mouth-watering demos. First up, there will be an exclusive demonstration with Vancouver’s premier patisserie chef Thomas Haas. He’ll be sharing three restaurant-calibre recipes that are easy enough to make at home (there are only 18 tickets for this intimate event). Next up, an Expert Tasting Panel will host Vancouver’s four top pastry chefs discussing their dessert inspirations (and offering samples to guests!). And all of this culminates in the Grand Tasting Event where 15 of the city’s best pastry chefs and chocolatiers will be serving their tastiest creations for ticket holders to sample and savour. Limited to 300 guests.

These highly anticipated special dining events (featuring cross-country mashups of the industry’s top culinary talents) are a big part of what makes the EAT! Vancouver festival so unique. Look out for dinners from The Acorn and Edmonton’s Biera Restaurant, Cioppinos and Portland’s Nostranao, Campagnolo and Toronto’s La Palma (an Amex private event), the Vancouver Club’s Ned Bell and Fogo Island Inn (another Amex private event), and finally, Wildebeest with Toronto’s Richmond Station and Kojin.

5 New Culinary Classes

Now’s your chance to pick up new skills and dishes—EAT! Vancouver is hosting a whole new lineup of hands-on classes. Look out for pizza making, basics of charcuterie, Peruvian street-food grilling, fish butchering and prep, artisan sausage making and a unique soda shoppe food/spirits experience.
