BREAKING: Loam Bistro Set to Open Its Doors October 3

Brunch cafe Loam Bistro will officially open in North Van early next month.

If I know one thing about the city I now call home, it’s that it loves brunch. Don’t get me wrong, other cities also wake up at the sound of mimosas pouring and bacon frying, but no one out brunches the city of sea-crows (obviously this is where I admit I find it strange that our crows love the beach as much as I do).

I too am willing to hoist myself out of my cozy too-expensive apartment to search for the best portmanteau meal the city has to offer—so when I heard that a new concept brunch restaurant was set to open in the heart of the Lower Lonsdale district of North Van, well, let’s just say I started checking SeaBus times.

Life and business partner Honoka Saito and Chef Rahul Negi have set out to create a space that’s both cozy and full of natural light and lush greenery—reflecting the city-meets-mountains vibe of North Vancouver.

Saito’s background is in beverage consultancy—and we heard she’s made sure to include an array of both drip coffee and espresso-based beverages using locally roasted beans from places like House of Funk and Moving Coffee. Plus matcha that’s sourced from Japan.

Loam Bistro is set to offer classic-meets-contemporary brunch fare, meaning the menu will have recognizable items with a twist. Some of Chef Rahul Negi’s (previously of Joe Fortes and Robba di Matti) menu features include a fresh acai bowl (with greek yogurt, rose water, house-made granola, fruit and chia seeds), a prosciutto and hot honey sandwich (on focaccia with roasted peaches, stracciatella and argula), and a bone marrow omelette (!!) (with chuck roast, coconut gravy, gruyere and sourdough). Plus sweet items like pistachio French toast (made from a milk loaf with pistachio cream, cookie crumble and pistachio ice cream) and matcha creme brulee (served with fresh strawberries).

With so many dishes that sound enticing, Loam is making the first day practically decision proof: on the day of the grand opening (October 3) it’s offering the first twenty tables two-for-one entrees.
