The designer is coming to the West Coast with her range of easy, breezy "lifestyle lingerie."
It’s invasion of the Toronto labels this weekend. A hostile Hogtown takeover—first with Mejuri setting up shop in Riley Park, and now with Mary Young popping up just a short drive away in Mount Pleasant! But I’ll allow it. Because even though we’re supposed to be nemeses (Toronto vs. Everybody, right???), I also love an indie Canadian biz that not only offers ethically produced goods, but champions inclusivity and body positivity, to boot.
And that’s exactly what designer Mary Young does with her line of “lifestyle lingerie”—easy-breezy bras, panties and bodysuits crafted from super-soft bamboo jersey that hugs, not hides or digs into, your curves. Comfort is top of mind here—something strangely lacking in the frilly intimates of big-box retailers—though Young’s pieces are designed to be shown off, too. There’s the Contrast Bra, for instance, which pairs fun hues like orange and violet with mesh panels that amp up the sexiness, or the see-through Kendi Brief that’s fit for both everyday and V-day activity, if you catch my drift.
Young also makes a range of moisture-wicking boxer briefs, and she even collab’d with local wedding dress maker Truvelle on a line of contemporary bridal lingerie in 2016. Plus, her stuff has been picked up by Vancouver-based Arc Apparel, Hills of Kerrisdale and Charlie and Lee—which is to say, she is veryVancouverite-approved!
Intrigued? Check out some of my favourite pieces from Mary Young below, and scroll down for deets on her two-day pop-up in Vancouver, where you can shop the goods IRL this weekend. (The designer is also hosting a panel discussion for entrepreneurs on Friday.)
