24 Days of B.C. Beer: Mint Chocolate Stout by Moody Ales (No.2)

Welcome to 24 Days of Beer, in which we guide you through what might be a very dark month. Aren’t you glad we’re here to tell you what to drain your sorrows with?

Well, it took two days to get into a type of beer that my colleague and food editor Neal McLennan would likely call “gross.” It was a good run.

As a rule, I’ll try pretty much anything when it comes to beer, with the understanding that certain things just don’t taste very good mixed with hops (at least to me). My one condition is this: make it taste like the can says it should.

To that end, Moody Ales delivers on its Mint Chocolate Stout. And it’s actually pretty good too, against most odds.

Like almost all heavy and sweet stouts, you likely aren’t going to want more than one of these bad boys at a time. This thing practically embodies the Christmas spirit though, and we can’t think of a better “just put the tree up” beer.

And yes, we’re at the point where we literally hit the fridge for a beer the second after doing any type of movement whatsoever. I doubt you’re going to find a beer that tastes this much like Christmas during the holiday season. (Though I, personally, will be trying my hardest to top it.)

Props to Moody Ales for following through on what couldn’t have been an easy beer to make. If that’s gross, I don’t want to be… non-gross. I guess.
