The Gift of Warmth Event is Accepting Winter Clothing Donations for Vancouver’s Binner Community

This winter, the Gift of Warmth event is striving to help one of the most at-risk communities in Metro Vancouver, the Binner Community. Binner clients include those who make a living by collecting refundable items from garbage bins and returning them for deposit refunds. Often these individuals face cold and wet conditions during the wintertime and are in need of warm apparel.

Vancouver Regional Recycling has teamed up with SPUD.ca, The Binner’s Project, and Working Gear to launch the Gift of Warmth, a campaign that strives to gather clothing donations for the Binner community. From now until Saturday, December 14, Vancouver Regional Recycling will be collecting items like adult outerwear, blankets, new socks and boots. All donations can be dropped off at SPUD.ca’s weekly bin program or at your regional recycling location.

“Regional Recycling is a family run business, with strong ties to the community. Our staff gets to know the people that are struggling, yet work so hard to get money through the collection of refundable containers,” says Vancouver General Manager, Jason Smith. “The Gift of Warmth is a way for Regional Recycling and others in the community to give a helping hand to those in need.”

On December 14, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., a free, public ‘Gift of Warmth’ BBQ event will take place at the Vancouver Regional Recycling on Evans Avenue. During the event members of the Binner community can select from the donated winter items, as well and hot dogs and warm apple cider will be provided.
