We are proud to announce a major upcoming exhibition at Paul Kyle Gallery, “Jack Bush: Flaunting the Rules.” Jack Bush is a highly acclaimed artist and prominent member of Canada’s leading group of abstract artists, Painters Eleven. This marks Bush’s first major solo exhibition in British Columbia in nearly half a century, reflecting his abstract works in the years 1961 to 1976, a pivotal time that highlights his rise to international prominence propelled by art critic Clement Greenberg, who encouraged him to embrace simplified forms, flat compositions and bold colours. This transformative era placed Bush among artists such as Kenneth Noland and Jules Olitski, and representation from prestigious galleries in New York, London and Toronto.

Significant pieces include June Lilac (1972) from Audrey and David Mirvish collection, January Reds (1966) from the former Andy Williams Collection, and Series ‘D’ Walkway (one of ten works from ‘D’ Series, 1970) from David Mirvish Gallery. Most notably, Spin-Off Yellow (1976) from André Emmerich Gallery will be shown publicly for the first time since its display at IBM, New York, in 1976.

Through successive bodies of work, the exhibition reveals Jack Bush’s virtuosity and refinery of form and colour, emphasizing his experimentation and innovation throughout his career.
