Lipont Gallery will be showcasing dozens of recent paintings by Richmond-based artist Horae Jiang. Jiang was born in Ningbo, China in 1971. She moved to Guangdong with his parents at the age of seven. She graduated from Guangdong Provincial Institute of Education and completed the advanced research class of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. In 2003, she moved to Taiyuan, Shanxi, and immigrated to Canada in 2022. Jiang is a professional painter with thirty years of experience in college art teaching. She is a member of the Shanxi Provincial Artists Association, and a member of the Men in Hats art group in Richmond, BC. She currently works and lives in Richmond.

The twenty-five paintings in the Memories of Richmond Series were created in Richmond and Vancouver within the last two years. Like many new immigrants, the artist went through a period of loneliness and discomfort when she first arrived. Later, the beautiful scenery of Richmond and Vancouver relieved most of her depression. During the day, she drove along the beach and returned home at night to record what she saw and felt with her brush.

“ ‘Immersion’ is a beautiful word, which means to devote yourself to a state of selflessness. Nature and music are always the most effective healers. Artistic creation can give a place to the heart that has nowhere to rest. Beauty is something that is expressed by sensory perception or imagination. My works record the trajectory of emotional movement and use nature and music to express fragments of vision and memory in a realistic or abstract way. Some works directly get rid of natural forms and try to use lines and geometric shapes to express the experience of reality through virtuality and reality.” – Horae Jiang 2024
