Iconic and playful, there is nothing quite like the Happy Diamonds collection.
The opening of Chopard’s first Western Canadian boutique (the largest in Canada!) on Hornby and West Georgia Street, has brought the glamour of the red carpet to Vancouver’s Luxury District. The family-owned Swiss jewellery and timepiece house offers a vast array of exceptional pieces for shoppers to indulge in – most notably, pieces from the Happy Diamonds collection. Whether you are looking for the perfect watch or a show-stopping necklace, the delightfully elegant Happy Diamonds are a gift everyone will enjoy.
These iconic diamonds have been a part of Chopard’s history fore more than 40 years, and are legendary for their ability to “dance”. The collection got its start in the early 1970s, when Chopard designer and decorator Ronald Kurowski went for a walk in the Black Forest and was struck by the sight of thousands of droplets in a waterfall dancing in the sunlight. The designer became inspired to create a new model for diamonds where they were free from their traditional claw setting. Each stone was given a bevelled base, allowing the diamonds to twirl in any direction unrestricted and joyfully – thus, the birth of the name “Happy Diamonds.”And while the 1976 debut of Happy Diamonds may have been in watchmaking, its enormous success led to the Happy Diamonds jewellery line, marking the start of jewellery at Chopard in 1985. These playful gems have since continued to transcend time and reinvent themselves in various collections including, Happy Hearts (an elegant expression of hearts and diamonds), Happy Sport (the first watch to combine steel and diamonds), and most recently the romantic Happy Dreams jewellery collection.
In honour of the Happy Diamonds’ 40th anniversary, the latest collection, Happy Dreams, features a new prong setting with larger gems in a range of sizes, that accentuates their whimsical movements. Meanwhile, watchmaking sees the arrival of a new ladies’ watch that pays homage to the past with the same cushion shape of the very first model. An iconic collection, indeed!
