Bad Academy Is Offering an Adult Summer Camp on the Sunshine Coast for Women and Non-Binary Folks

The best parts of summer camp? Lifelong friendships. Outdoor fun. S’mores. The worst parts of summer camp? Uncomfy beds. Mean boys. The ails of puberty. The thing is, Bad Academy is offering all the good and (ironically) none of the bad: a real chance to embrace all the fun nostalgia of a getaway with cool new friends (and no one will make fun of you for getting your period while canoeing).

You might remember Bad Academy’s Amanda Kao for her ‘Disruptor’ status in our Spring issue. Bad Academy puts on regular events and workshops (think knife throwing, tarot reading, car maintenance… just girly things) for women and non-binary folks around Vancouver. This summer, they’re hosting Bad Summer Camp—and “bad,” of course, means good.

Bad Summer Camp runs from June 14 to 16 at the Sunshine Coast’s newly reopened Stonewater motel. Included in a $695 ticket are all meals, campfires, morning rituals like sound baths and yoga, activities like cedar weaving, hikes and swimming, and access to the Stonewater’s sweet amenities (there’s a sauna, hot tub and cold plunge on site). It’s a dream weekend getaway that you don’t have to plan… the itinerary is sorted for you.  Bad Academy’s website says it best: “If you’ve been craving a low-maintenance getaway where you can relax, reconnect with the land and friends, and most of all, have SO MUCH fun, this is the camp for you!”

The registration fee doesn’t include accommodations, so you’ll have to sort that out with the folks at the Stonewater (there’s a 10% discount for all Bad Campers). Feels like the perfect opportunity to treat (and heal) your inner tween-summer-camper.
