Is There a Distinctly “Vancouver” Watch?
The bottled-cocktail company plans to open its first taproom and retail shop next month.
Last weekend was so nice, many of us forgot it is not technically summer. I know this because everyone I talked to said something like, “I’m so glad summer is finally here!” To be clear, it is… May. A month that is famously spring.
But I don’t think it’s just the sun that had us feeling summery—it may have been the announcement of a new cocktail bar coming to Mount Pleasant.
Please Tasting House is setting up shop on W 5th Ave as we speak, with an anticipated launch in June. The mere promise of fresh squeezed juices, of glasses rimmed with salt and citrus, of sipping fizzy, refreshing spritzes has us chomping at the bit for summer to hurry up and get here already.
Please will feature cocktails on tap, as well as a retail store with cocktail ingredients and botanic spirits. The Vancouver-based company (founded by Noel Steen) is taking over a former auto repair shop to serve a variety of its small-batch conceptions and small bites from Lebanese hot spot Jamjar.
The back of the building will operate as Please’s production facility, while the taproom and lounge will seat 67 in a Table Architecture Collective-designed space. (Watch for a wild and wonderful floral mural from artist Mega McGrath, and actual, real-life florals and plants from Westcoast Jungle.) But on warm days, the floor-to-ceiling glass garage door will slide up, directing our attention out to the street so we can properly people-watch as we sip on Please cocktails.
Concoctions include classic palms alongside innovative treats like the Green Tea Fizz or Strawberry Smash. And if you find the summer sipper of your dreams, the shop will have bottles available to bring home.
I’ll be following along for updates at @enjoy_please_ on Instagram. It’s kind of the perfect activity to do as I wait for this sunburn I got this last weekend to heal. (Ah, summer.)
