A tribute to one of Vancouver's winter beer classics.
Welcome to 24 Days of Beer, in which we guide you through what might be a very dark month. Aren’t you glad we’re here to tell you what to drain your sorrows with?
While we have tried to highlight new releases here at 24 Days of Beer, it would just be disingenuous to say that we didn’t dig into this absolute classic of the winter beer genre this (and every) holiday season.
Other beers have success merging horchata with ale, sure. But this impeccably crafted, beautifully designed beer from Port Moody’s Twin Sails Brewing has become one of Greater Vancouver’s most loved stouts.
There’s a few reasons why. While it’s thick and not watery at all, it doesn’t weigh down the drinker. Even at 7.5 percent alcohol, it feels like the rare coffee beer that actually caffeinates you. Instead of sticking you in a chair and letting you rot like so many high-alcohol stouts tend to do, it lifts you up.
There won’t be any holiday parties to preside over this winter, but keep this bad boy in mind for coming years when you just feel like you’re not going to be able to sweat it out at the in-laws place for five-plus hours.
Or hey, use it to combat all the screen fatigue you’re going to be suffering through this holiday season.
