Science of Cocktails aims to send underprivileged kids on school trips
Cocktail creation is as good a science as any in our books, and on that note Science World has partnered with some of Vancouver’s best bartenders for a night of charity fundraising. On Thursday, February 4, Science of Cocktails will allow guests to wander around Science World after dark and enjoy drinks, appetizers by Railtown Catering, and fun cocktail-themed science experiments like liquid nitrogen demonstrations and real-life beer goggles. Proceeds will go toward the Science World Class Field Trip Program, which allows kids from underfunded schools like Hastings Elementary and Mount Pleasant Elementary to take field trips to Science World (a formally government-funded program that was axed by the Conservatives).Here are three drinks on the menu for you to check out before you buy your tickets to the event (general admission is $145, VIP is $250).1. El Ritmo Made using Bacardi, Cynar, fresh pineapple, fresh lime, and coconut cream, bartender Giancarlo Quiroz Jesus (The Diamond) went all mad-scientist on us with his use of the nitro keg.2. Chocolate Rum Old FashionedUsing a rapid infusion technique by alternating either a vacuum chamber or nitrous oxide chargers (the flavour drastically changes depending on which tool is used), Tarquin Melnyk (Bambudda) mixed chocolate-infused rum, a dash of bitters, and orange peel for a sweet twist on a seasoned classic.3. Smoked Pineapple MartiniGrant Sceney (Fairmont Pacific Rim) wasn’t messing around when he created this vodka-based cocktail. Chunks of smoked pineapple and chamomile syrup were mixed with the spirit on an electronic contraption that self-shakes the drink.
