The story goes that upon seeing her new rustic settings, Major Hugh Fraser’s wife ditched town (and her husband) with no more than a curt “see ya later”. The original proprietor planted vines—and a history—upon her departure, not once regretting his decision to stay behind.Perched high atop the sun-soaked slopes of the South Okanagan and overlooking Skaha Lake See Ya Later Ranch has made a name for itself as a must stop on any Okanagan getaway. New winemaker David Saysomsack, who refers to last year’s harvest as “one to remember” believes that guests are in for a particular treat this year.“The site and elevation of the vineyards allowed the grapes to take full advantage of the hot summer days while allowing for cooler nights during the ripening season,” shares Saysomsack, who has previously worked at wineries across North America and in New Zealand. “The white wines are vibrant and flavourful and the red wines are rich and deep,” he says. “The aromatics almost jump right out of the glass.”New this year SYL is offering regular food and wine pairing events, where experienced wine educators guide guests through the art and science of pairing perfectly matched bites with five award-winning wines. The events—which run daily through peak summer season—will replace the historical vineyard tour, equipping guests with a bit of entertaining expertise to take home.
