I know where I’m taking my dad for Father’s Day this weekend.Riz, Hooked Poke Bar, Pokey Okey, and The PokéMan will all be competing for the title of “Best in B.C.” at Vancouver’s first annual Poke Showdown. Taking place on Sunday, June 16th at Fortune Sound Club in Chinatown this all-ages event will definitely satisfy your poke cravings – or contribute to more of them. One of a kind seafood and vegetarian dishes are up for grabs. The four contenders are known for their quality ingredients and flavours that keep locals coming back for more. Think ahi tuna with sambal mayo sauce and sockeye salmon with kimchi Korean Baby Sauce. But keep in mind, the tasting menu won’t be announced until Sunday morning.Forget that last minute gift card you were planning on getting your foodie dad and take him for an afternoon of poke-til-you-drop. Advance tickets are $15 and give attendees the chance to become food judges for the day, trying each competitor’s best offerings and placing their vote. What foodie doesn’t want to become a food judge for the day? Now, it’s not exactly healthy to stuff your face with poke but you can’t go wrong when a poke pop-up feels so right.
